En période de crise financière, de nombreux gouvernements nationaux ont été contraints de négocier des accords avec le Fonds Monétaire International pour recevoir des prêts; en contrepartie, ils ont dû adopter un programme d'ajustement structurel. Cependant, l'austérité budgétaire prolongée a fortement ébranlé les politiques sociales dans les pays respectifs. Ce texte présente les sept articles qui composent ce dossier, cherchant ainsi à introduire le débat sur “la protection sociale en période d'austérité”.
