Resumo
Narrativas em torno da “descoberta” da “arte negra” pela arte moderna europeia foram fundamentais para a construção da autoimagem do modernismo. De início, elas estiveram dominadas por relatos de artistas como Vlaminck e Picasso, que, por volta de 1906, teriam começado a olhar com atenção para objetos da África e Oceania. No caso de Picasso, sua relação com a dita arte negra foi objeto de uma longa disputa, que buscarei reconstituir brevemente, discutindo parte da fortuna crítica a esse respeito.
