Abstract

Over the last decades, a lot has been said about the relations, frictions, and tensions that bring together anthropological and historical approaches to various subjects. The focus on the intersections of these fields of knowledge is especially evident in the case of critical inquiries about regimens and uses of sources, documents, and archives. Frequently referred to as “historical anthropology” and/or “cultural history”, the boundaries that shape and define Anthropology, History and their articulation with other disciplines have consciously been blurred and transgressed by many scholars. Named “Sources, documents, and archives on the border of Anthropology, History and other fields of knowledge”, this dossier presents examples of this insubmissive approach to varied sources - administrative and academic documents, popular stories, oral memories, among others. In this sense, the papers gathered and organized here not only challenge their sources, but also shed light to the efforts to create other archives and question the truths about the past they are supposed to hold.
