Paranismo, neo-paranismo and social media: a study of paranaenses symbols in Greca's term through Facebook (2016 - 2021)

Abstract

The following paper seeks to discuss how the Curitiba City Hall Facebook page presents and sets up a "Paranista" identity among its followers. To achieve that, we have analyzed pictures posted by the city hall page since 2016 until january 2021, moment of Rafael Greca's reelection as Mayor. Furthermore, we have worked with the recepction of Paranista symbols through the most relevant comments in those posts. Therefore, the paper is divided in two moments: firstly, we discuss what is Paranismo, what are its main features and how to think identity based in Stuart Hall (2006). Secondly, we analyze posts published in Curitiba's City Hall Facebook page, based in discussions about digital media, such as Recuero (2014). Hence we understand that Paranista identity is still present nowadays, however reformulated and with new meanings. Nonetheless, social media difuses, reproduces and reinforces Paranista features already existing in people's everyday life, but it does not constitutes new symbologies.
