The impact of the globalization process in Brazil: the numbers of privatization and the level of compliance with the neoliberal primer

Abstract

This article aims to analyze - albeit succinctly - the process of implementing the neoliberal adjustment policies that has been taking place in Brazil after the National Privatization Program (PND). It is based on the assumption that such measures, in the way they have been carried out, directly affect the sustainability of democracy as well as the rule of law, through the imbalance between the actions of the Legislative, Executive and Judiciary Powers. It gives a brief historical account of the emergence of neoliberal thinking to immediately identify its phases of implementation - based on the Washington Consensus - so that I can see where Brazil fits in. And, finally, it raises some data referring to recent privatization processes carried out, to expose the conflict between the Executive Branch and civil society.
