Abstract
The text analyzes post-colonial tensions among Portuguese in São Paulo based on disputes between associative leaders who seek legitimacy with immigrants and the Portuguese government, differentiating themselves as cultural intermediaries in promoting the image and the Portuguese presence in Brazil.
