Abstract
Historically invented by political processes, modern nations are reaffirmed by public rituals that, as symbolic practices, update the cultural content of the different social demands of belonging to the nation. This article focuses on the relations between symbolism and social processes based on the reflections of ClifFord Gueertz and Victor Turner, to subsequently establish a critical dialogue between the notions of invented tradition, of Hobsbawm, and of the nation as an imagined political community. Anderson, whose objective is to analyze the concept of nation as a political and symbolic construction.
