Resumo

Este artigo examina a noção unitária de habitus presente nos primeiros trabalhos de Bourdieu e sua transformação ao longo da carreira sociológica do autor, acompanhando-a até as concepções posteriores de um conceito de habitus fragmentado para examinar a relacionalidade e as mudanças sociais contemporâneas. O percurso do conceito de habitus em Bourdieu mostra que as interações entre habitus e campo exigem um crescente trabalho de integração dos indivíduos conforme a vida social se torna mais diferenciada. O artigo argumenta em favor da necessidade da sociologia investir em análises de campo para avançar nas explorações do habitus e reconhecer a potencial flexibilidade do conceito. Sugere-se que a sociologia adote a noção psicanalítica de “posicionar-se nos espaços” (standing in spaces) (e noções associadas de “liminaridade” e experiências em posições intersticiais) para o desenvolvimento produtivo da noção de habitus fragmentado e para aprimorar propostas que veem o social com uma história passível de mudança pelos seres humanos.
