Abstract
This paper recovers the poverty index created by Arthur Okun including new variables available in the country. A methodology is developed for the new index, which expands its original scope and now considers, in addition to inflation, the underutilization of the labor force and the dimensions of household income and excessive family debt. The results found with the index for the period 2012-2021 show great fluctuation. After an initial drop until 2014, the index grew up to 2016, increasing slightly in 2017-2019. It starts to grow up again in 2020, reaching the highest value of the period in 2021 and pointing to the difficulties faced by the population at the end of the period analysed.
