Abstract
The objective of this article is to point out issues that help to reflect on the need for a profound restructuring of the Brazilian trade union movement due to the multiple disruptive transformations that occur in the world of work. The argument is based on the observation that the analytical approaches produced in the academic world contribute to stimulate debates within the trade union movement. Some of these interpretations suggest that union leaders and advisors are challenged to respond to the multiple attacks against labour rights and, at the same time, need to reformulate the strategies of union organisation and struggle. The guidelines of a proposed trade union reform directed to face the diagnosed challenges are presented.
