Resumen

En este artículo nos proponemos analizar algunos aspectos de la música y el pensamiento musical del músico Steve Coleman a través de la filosofía de Theodor Adorno. Trataremos la relación de Coleman con la tradición y el término jazz, la práctica de la improvisación y la sistemática de su música. Estos temas se tratarán desde la perspectiva de la dialéctica de la identidad y la no-identidad querida por la Dialéctica Negativa de Adorno. El objetivo es tratar de demostrar algunas de las contradicciones que circunscriben la obra de Coleman y cómo se construye a través de ellas.
