Abstract

Researcher José Ramos Tinhorão had announced in 2004 that the song was over! Rap and electronic music would signal this end. The statement made it possible to develop a series of debates on the status of Brazilian popular song that entered the 21st century. Chico Buarque de Hollanda, for example, also pointed to changes in this field, admitting that rap would be the “denial of the song” as it stands.
he had known and, perhaps, a sign that the “song is gone, gone”. Each in its own way, whether in the perspective of criticism or in the diagnosis that something has changed in terms of the song, these comments show that there is no way to disregard the impact brought by rap among contemporary musical expressions.
