Abstract
This article presents the process of creation of the Extension Project in Political Education (PROEEP - UNICAMP) and its work in partnership with the Campinas City Council. The objective is to demonstrate how democratic dialogue is central for both political education and for extension actions as a whole, from the idealization of the extension projects to their application. Through the experience report and the analysis of data collected through questionnaires, it is concluded that, although students from public and private schools have different perceptions about the space for political education in their schools, both groups of students have greater engagement and interest in understanding the functioning of policy when they are involved in learning dynamics in which they play a leading role and have autonomy.
