Abstract

This article aims to investigate the participation of the arts and artists in the processes of urban regeneration in contemporary cities. Using authors from the fields of the arts, urban sociology, human geography and critical urban studies, we seek to analyze the project of revitalizing the port area of Rio de Janeiro, which has established alliances and partnerships with the arts, evidenced in different actions and projects. In this article, we are particularly interested in the production of murals and graffiti in the region, focusing on the artwork Etnias - somos todos um [Ethnicities - we are all one], created by Eduardo Kobra for the Olympic Boulevard on the eve of the 2016 Olympics.
