Abstract

This article discusses the film Breve miragem de sol (Rocha, 2019) within the emerging field of ‘night studies’ (Kyba et al 2020), transdisciplinary field of study that addresses aspects of human experience often neglected by a focus dominated by a daytime perspective. Its starting point is the concept of night as ‘frontier’ (Melbin, 1978), which problematizes the commercialization and colonization of the night time-space, and the concept of spectrality in the everyday (Blanco & Peeren, 2010), to discuss the representation of Paulo (Fabrício Boliveira), nighttime taxi driver who, while the city ‘sleeps’, unveils the invisible side of the 24-hour city.
