Abstract
Should we understand architecture as a mere applied art, or does its activity comprise the full expression of a fine art? Based on this question, Schmarsow (1856–1936) investigates the essence of architectural creation, bringing to the center of the debate the subject’s sensory perception and the maxim of architecture as “figuration of the space”. Here, we present the first translation of this important text from 1893 into Portuguese; The essence of architectural creation.
