Colonial brazilian gardens, from pleasent to useful places

Abstract

Architects’ interest in the traditional city’s morphology is increasing due to the growth in appreciation of issues linked to cultural identity and the protection of urban heritage. This involves an understanding of the relationship between man and
nature. Such comprehension is fundamentally important taking into account the need to preserve such places as the old cities of Olinda and Ouro Preto. In general, these settlements were integrated into their natural environment, where the green areas were essential in the constructions’ planning.
