The case of the ‘Italians of Paris’ at the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of University of São Paulo (MAC USP)

Abstract

The objective of this article is to comment on the existence of a group of artists called “Italians of Paris”, pointing out the presence of some of their artworks in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of University of São Paulo (MAC USP) and up to what extent they are related to the profile of the first Italian acquisitions for the collection of the former Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM SP), which would become MAC USP’s collection later. The reflections presented in this text are part of the ongoing master research, under orientation of Dr. Ana Gonçalves Magalhães, who is responsible for the critical reevaluation of MAC USP’s collection (former MAM’s collection).
