About the musealization of pain: body, narratives and counter-hegemony in Pedras Portuguesas and Brinquedo de Furar Moletom by Jaime Lauriano

Abstract

The research presented here deals with the relationships between race, art, museum, heritage and the theme of historical violence, having as object of analysis the three works under the title Pedras Portuguesas and the installation Brinquedo de Furar Moletom by the artist Jaime Lauriano. Establishing an overview of the traditional modes of arts and museums still in force in Brazilian art and culture, recovering ideas about the racialization of individuals and groups in Brazil since its colonization, passing through the narrative power of the body and the experiences mediated by it, Lauriano's works are read as a practical and symbolic counterproductive form in the face of modern Eurocentric hegemony. To do so, it uses the theories of western hegemony in Ernesto Laclau and Boaventura de Sousa Santos, racialization in Silvio Almeida, Aníbal Quijano and Achille Mbembe, the power of the body in the production of knowledge in Maurice Merleau-Ponty and the ideas of the relationship between art and violence/painful themes in Karl Erik Schøllhammer and Thierry De Duve.
