Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published and is not under consideration with another journal (or an explanation has been provided in ‘Comments to the Editor’).
  • Submission of the original to the journal implies authorization to publish it.
  • The content and revision of the text, as well as image copyrights, are the author(s)’s responsibility.
  • The text must follow the style standards and bibliographic guidelines detailed in Authors’ Guidelines.
  • All appropriate measures are taken to avoid revealing the identity of author(s), as stated in Guidelines for Authors’ Confidentiality.

Author Guidelines

Submissions can be arranged in five categories: 1) article; 2) interview; 3) document transcription; 4) review; 5) dossier.

For the first four sections, submissions must be made via the online platform, following the general guidelines (formatting, references and confidentiality of authors' identities) and the specific guidelines for each section. If you have any doubts when filling out the data requested on the platform, read Guidelines for filling out metadata below.

For the organization of Dossiers, send proposals directly via email to: rhac@unicamp.br.

The RHAC does not make distinctions regarding academic titles, considering only the scope and quality of the work submitted, in accordance with the journal’s requirements. Advisors and supervisors of academic works, such as monographs, theses and post-doctoral research, must not sign articles originating from these in co-authorship (mentioning them only in a note), unless they have actively collaborated in their preparation.

Files must be submitted as .doc or .docx.

Text can be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French or Italian. The RHAC publishes papers in their original language, without translations.

Documents must use size 12 Calibri font, justified, 1.5cm line spacing; A4 size pages, with 2.5cm top and bottom edges and 3cm side margins.

Italics should be used for the titles of artworks, for foreign words and to highlight terms. Do not use underlines, except for hyperlinks.

If there are subsections within the document, do not number them but indicate them in bold, e.g. Introduction; Conclusion, etc.

All bibliographic references must be indicated through the numbering system, or, in case of footnotes, through ABNT NBR 10520-2002. The RHAC does not publish bibliographies by the end of each text.

Direct quotations within the text must be highlighted between double quotation marks “ ” (if there are quotation marks used in the original text, change them to single quotation marks ‘ ’). When the direct quote exceeds three lines, the paragraph must be indented 4 cm from the left margin, font size 11 and single spaced, without the use of double quotation marks (unless pre-existing in the original text).

Articles and interviews must include a title, abstract and keywords, with the respective English versions. Abstracts should contain about 500 characters, including spacing.

References follow the ABNT NBR 6023-2018 standard (see Guidelines for references in the link below).

After the first citation in a footnote, use abbreviated forms, such as idem, ibidem and opus citatum/opere citado throughout the text.

Tables must be placed at the end of the text, preceded by a title. E.g.: Table 1: Gathering of the artist’s artwork. In case of transcribed table’s quotations from other authors, it is mandatory to indicate the reference as a footnote after the table’s title. In the text body, indicate its location between brackets. E.g.: [Table 1], [Table 2] and so on. Tables do not count in the characters count.

Charts must not be placed in the text, but sent in different files, in the appropriate section in the platform (article’s components), as TIF or JPG formats. In the text body, it is necessary to indicate its location between brackets. E.g.: [Chart 1], [Chart 2] and so on. Each file must indicate this number, without the brackets. E.g.: chart1.jpg. The charts titles must be placed sequentially in the end of the text, identifying their numbering. In case of chart’s reproduction by another author, it is fundamental to insert the full bibliographical reference after the title, supported by “In:”. E.g.: Chart 1: Number of artwork produced by the artist by decade. In: Full bibliographical reference (as seen in References Guidelines).

Images must not be placed in the text, but sent in different files, in the appropriate section in the platform (Article components), in TIF or JPG formats. In the text body, indicate the image’s location in square brackets. E.g.: [Figure 1], [Figure 2] and so on. Each file must indicate this number, without the brackets. E.g.: figure1.jpg.

The image captions must be placed sequentially in the end of the text, respecting the following format:

Figure (number): Artist, Title in bold, year. Technique, dimension in cm, location (museum’s name, collection, if any), city (if any). Copyright / References or Photographer.

E.g. Thomas Lawrence, The Children of Sir Samuel Fludyer, 1806. Oil on canvas, 240.5 x 149.5 cm, Museu de Arte de São Paulo, São Paulo.

In case of images which are not suitable for printing in high quality, the publishing board may request alterations. The use of high-quality/resolution images, with a minimum of 300 dpi, is highly recommended wherever possible. If they are inadequate, the publishing board reserves its right to publish them in black and white or, ultimately, to veto their usage.
