Resumo
A loucura e a submersão de Ofélia fascinaram o século 19. A multiplicidade de representações visuais para o episódio de Hamlet, dentre inúmeros motivos, decorre também da compreensão ambígua ao trecho da peça, narrado pela personagem da rainha Gertrudes, não encenado e, portanto, ainda mais sugestivo. Neste artigo, gravuras, desenhos, pinturas e esculturas serão confrontados com os fragmentos shakespearianos, ponderando-se sobre as questões de recato e sensualidade, morte acidental ou voluntária, e sobre o enquadramento de um tema trágico e romântico às convenções das formas artísticas.
