Digital preservation: analysis of scientific production in the Web of Science database (1992-2022)

Abstract

Introduction: This is an overview of scientific production on the topic of Digital Preservation given its relevance in the preservation of the scientific, historical and cultural heritage of humanity, recorded and stored in digital format. Objective: The objective of this work is to analyze in detail the scientific production on Digital Preservation from scientific articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science (WOS) database between the period from 1992 to 2022. Methodology: The bibliographical research was chosen as a data collection technique for performing quantitative analysis that is based on the development of indicators that provide a better outline of the scientific production on the subject.  Results: From the collection of data, 341 articles were analyzed that deal directly with the topic. Through the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was possible to verify the number of articles published over the years, the number of articles published according to the language, the country of the researchers origin, the journals with the highest number of publications, articles by area of ​​knowledge, the most productive authors on the subject, the number of authors per article, the most cited articles and the frequency of keywords. Conclusion: The indicators developed from this study contribute to improving the knowledge of the scientific community on the topic of Digital Preservation. Added to this is the potential to open paths for new researches, since a well-defined  bibliographical research of a specific theme greatly facilitates the work of researchers in the development of new studies with innovative approaches.
