Digital preservation research in Pernambuco

Abstract

Introduction - The text offers a retrospective view of the development of Digital Preservation (DP) studies in Pernambuco, taking as a theoretical framework the proposition of the Model of Memorial Systems. (GALINDO, 2005; 2009 and 2014). Objective - To discuss the role of the Liber Laboratory of Knowledge Technology as a multi-user research unit at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), point out the main studies, the insertion of research in virtual libraries, which began in the late nineties. Methodology – It uses the structuring instrument of the experience report to describe the contribution of the Liber group, highlighting the relevant points for the field of DP. It describes the performance, exchange and proposition of ideas for the DP. Results – It narrates the experience of the Bank of Theses and Dissertations and IBICIT in the installation of pioneer repositories that made possible the establishment of a memory network of scientific research in Brazil, operated by institutions of the national education and research system. Conclusion - It describes the formation of research in Preservation and Digital Curation established in the Graduate Program in Information Science at UFPE and the re-edition of the risk monitoring program in national Institutional Repositories as permanent results of this effort.
