The management of digital preservation of research data: proposal for a procedural model

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present the elements related to digital preservation for research data and a management model from the current conceptualization of its life cycle, where research funding institutions demand a research data management plan that guarantees research data funded by these institutions can be validated and reused by other researchers. The usability of digitally archived data in institutions is pointed to as the result of the definition of a preservation policy adopted by open access initiatives, of how archived content should be discovered and used by researchers, within a management model that justifies its collection and preservation, providing new meanings to stakeholders over time. Identifying the key elements involved in managing digital preservation of research data focuses on their imperative role in managing the immediate needs of universities.
