Abstract
This interview, conducted by percussionist Frank Colon with Dom Um Romão, was originally published in English in November 1990 by Modern Drummer, one of the leading drumset and percussion magazines in the United States, existing since 1977 and now present in over 60 countries. The interviews session is recurrent in the magazine's issues, and Brazilian drummers and percussionists were interviewed several times, especially those who left Brazil during the military dictatorship that began in 1964, trying to find a better life in the United States or Europe, as is the case of Dom Um Romão, but also Airto Moreira, Nenê and others. Thus, it is an important source for the construction of the history of Brazilian drumming, especially when we see that these artists were out of Brazil for a long time and here there is little or almost no content about them during this period.
