Resumen

La comedia griega y la nueva comedia romana muestran gran parte de la vida de las mujeres de todas las clases sociales. Estas piezas expresan regularmente una preocupación social amplia con la seguridad de las niñas ciudadanas, y mostrar lo queridas que son estas niñas para sus familias. Muestran la crueldad casual con la que se trata a las mujeres esclavas, y también mostrar cómo estas mujeres resisten el abuso y se apoyan mutuamente. Muestran a mujeres de todas las clases socialmente integradas en sus comunidades. Ellos también muestran abuso sexual y violación, así como una actitud masculina de apropiación en relación con las mujeres que se refieren a la Canción 1 de la Ilíada, y que todavía existe hoy en día: la condición de hombre entre los hombres se demuestra a través de la posesión de una mujer, y su derecho a poseerlo se ejerce con violencia. La Nueva Comedia muestra a mujeres comunes y corrientes sus vidas lo mejor que pueden. Los estudiantes modernos encuentran mucho que es particularmente en relación con la representación de la violencia sexual.
