Resumo
Dois termos de parentesco por afinidade na língua grega, gambrós (originalmente “marido da filha” e “marido da irmã”) e pentherós (originalmente “pai da esposa”), apresentam dificuldades quanto à semântica. A discussão sobre seus antecedentes no protoindo-europeu permanece aberta e, internamente ao grego, os termos possuem grande variedade de sentido nos períodos arcaico e clássico. Tendo isso em vista, este artigo busca descrever a história de sua evolução semântica do século VIII ao IV a.C., bem como indicar fatores que podem ter influenciado esse desenvolvimento. Depois de discutir como se deu a transição desses termos do protoindo-europeu ao grego e examinar todas as suas ocorrências nos períodos arcaico e clássico com o fim de identificar ego e referente em cada caso, o resultado final é uma sistematização mais precisa da distribuição dos significados de gambrós e pentherós, levando em conta diacronia, autores e gêneros literários. Essa sistematização aponta para diferentes evoluções diacrônicas, as quais levam a variações dentro das mesmas sincronias.
