Integrative practices in FOP/UNICAMP extension: use of acupuncture in FOP/UNICAMP extension

Abstract

Complementary and Integrative Practices  are offered by the Unified Health System  to the Brazilian population. The objective is to describe the experience with acupuncture in the extension service of the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba of the State University of Campinas  that has been taking place since 2007. The data came from attendance files at the FOP clinic in the extension courses in Acupuncture from 2007 to 2018 and at the Dental Specialties Center (CEO) of the Municipality of Piracicaba in 2018, to demonstrate the impact of care on the population. It was also analyzed the profile of the students who took the course over the years, and who attended the patients who sought care. The majority of users were female, adults, with a greater demand for head and neck changes and coming from the service location itself. Half had no previous experience with acupuncture and most hoped that acupuncture could solve their problem. Between 2007 and 2018, 12 experienced acupuncturists followed the developments of the extension courses and 31 students signed up to take it, of which 2 did postgraduate studies in the area. Since the first extension course in 2007, the population's acupuncture care provided skills acquisition by students and voluntary service providers, as well as providing care to patients who sought the service and trusted in solving the problem, thus taking the courses extension has a positive impact on the students of the courses, the population served and the university.
