Abstract
In this paper we shall consider visual representations of the Crucifixion, particularly paintings. We intend to analyze God’s body and its blood through their possible depictions in Late Medieval Christian art, in order to discuss current devotional practices stimulated by changes in religiosity developed by the end of the Middle Ages, and known by the expression affective piety. For methodological reasons we shall concentrate our analysis mainly in Italian models painted between the 13th and the 15th centuries.
