Abstract

This dossier brings together texts that focus on significant issues for the study of the visual arts, especially considering the Latin American reality. The proposal I made to the authors who interacted with me, in my role as advisor or supervisor, throughout their careers, was to offer an article with a topic of interest to Latin American studies. In this dossier, Brazil is considered as part of the context of Latin America and the world. Each author carries out a reflection in the field of art production or circulation and has, in an explicit or implicit way, the issue of “decolonization” or “decolonization” as an inherent part of their analysis. In the articles, this crucial point appears as a fundamental episteme, directly or indirectly explicit. Their texts are based on their recent research and many themes stem from studies they carried out for their university degree. Current indigenous art, popular expression in the context of culture, as well as exhibitions and their visitation and the practice of art criticism are themes present in this set. It is a dossier with texts supported by current debates. That is to say: we find readings of the experiences of art, based on conceptual discussions present today in the field of Human Sciences and the Arts.
