Abstract
This photo essay proposes to bring to light the scenario of the religious festivals in commemoration of the figure of the saint Saint George, which took place on the holiday of April 23, 2017 and 2018 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The cult of the saint, of great expression in the public space, has gained more visibility after the institution of the Saint George holiday (2001 to 2010) in the municipality and in the state (2008-). Saint George is the patron saint of the Military Police and the Fire Department of the state and unofficially is considered by many as the patron saint of the city. The figure of Saint George is represented as a protector and warrior saint. He is also syncretized with Ogum, an orixá worshiped in Afro-Brazilian religions, in which he is known as the orixá of iron, war and weapons, as a "hero who fights in favor of his children.
