Abstract

This essay is the result of the master's field research developed in 2015 among the Ticuna, in Umariaçú I, located in the municipality of Tabatinga, Alto Solimões, in the state of Amazonas. The girl's ritual is a rite of passage. When menstruating for the first time, the girl who participates in the ritual undergoes a scalp shave, which is performed in the presence of guests, her future fiancé, and members of her family. During the ritual, the girl receives guidance from her parents and relatives on how she should behave in order to maintain her life, and also build and maintain her future family; this ritual lasts for three days. After the rite the teenager (young girl) enters adulthood.
