Abstract
This paper discusses the importance of the expression of feelings as an effective tool for the characterization and individualization of type characters inherited from Greek comedy, and as a useful way to counteract the tendency to atellana farce contained in its genesis the plautine comedy. Sentimental excess may be one of the reasons for so-called failed comedies, but it also intervenes in the creation of realistic and human characters.
