Abstract

This article aims to analyze the figure of Helen and Paris in four archaic Melic poets: Alcman (Fr. 77 Davies), Sappho (Frs. 16 and 23 Voigt), Alcaeus (Frs. 42 and 283 Voigt) and Ibycus (Fr. S 151 Davies). Based on the historical context and on the performance of the songs, we will draw parallels with the poetic tradition prior to that of the poets, such as the epic cycle, and later, such as the tragedy, in order to understand the common places of the characters, as well as discover possible innovations.
