Resumo

Este artigo tem como principal objetivo discutir a construção e as funções do símile na poesia mélica arcaica. Para tanto, são apresentados alguns de seus aspectos formais e selecionou-se um corpus composto de um poema completo, o Epinício 5 de Baquílides (Maehler), e três fragmentos: o 96 de Safo (Voigt), o 19 de Estesícoro (Davies & Finglass) e o S151 de Íbico (Davies). Ao longo da argumentação, foram consideradas as dificuldades de análise desses símiles, geradas pelo estado fragmentário das canções e pelas diversas possibilidades de performance, e as particularidades das composições, que podem trazer tanto a linguagem poética tradicional do período, presente também nos poemas épicos, quanto imagens e mitos da tradição ressignificados.
