Abstract
This article searches an analytical review of the forms how gender has been described in the ethnological production of Lowland South America based on the concepts of sexual division of labour, complementarity of sexes, heterosexuality and marriage. Our intention is to point out the analytical assumptions of those descriptions: socialist feminism and alliance theory. We then bring the concept of supplementation to try to think of other possibilities for the reflexion about gender in Amerindian Amazonia.
