Abstract

In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global pandemic the cause of the new Coronavirus. Due to the very rapid geographical spread, Brazil has established a contingency plan to prevent the spread of the virus. In this context, the Dental Research and Care Center for Special Patients (CEPAE) located at the premises of the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba (FOP-UNICAMP), structured its services offered to pregnant and postpartum women online. Therefore, the objective of this work was to verify the adherence to telehealth of the participants in the Early Health Care program (PAPS) from April to July 2020. This is a quantitative, retrospective and documentary study, with the purpose of improving the management of the services offered by CEPAE. For the analysis of adherence to the new type of service, retrospective data were collected and compared regarding the number of services before and after social isolation, in the period corresponding from April to July 2020 (visits via telehealth) and April to July 2019 (face-to-face assistance). The information was collected through CEPAE's computerized system, with prior authorization from the institution. It was possible to identify an increase in participants' adherence rates in relation to telehealth when compared to face-to-face assistance. Both the Pregnant Women Orientation program and the Exclusive Breastfeeding Incentive Groups had an increase in participation rates (83%, n: 65; 30%, n: 18, respectively). It is concluded that telehealth proved to be a tool with high adherence in the public in question.
