Abstract
This paper seeks to present in revised form some of the results of a recent work on the relation between the notions of writing and intersemiotic translation (or transmutation) in current ethnological discussion (AUTHOR, 2020). It focuses, however, on only one of them, namely, that of writing. First, it attempts to characterize part of the debate, suggesting why the constant proposition of new definitions is problematic. It then lays out two contrasting strategies which have been used lately by different ethnologists to deal with this seeming concept, analysing in some detail the conceptual formulations of two examplary texts (SEVERI, 2007; DÉLÉAGE, 2017). A discussion of the insufficiencies of these strategies leads on to a brief presentation of certain semiotic and philosophical theses. Finally, a new strategy is proposed, based on an interaction between ethnology and deconstruction.
