Resumo
A Etologia é uma ciência que estuda o comportamento de animais (incluindo humanos) de modo a obter informações sobre seu estado emocional através da observação de seus padrões de comportamentos, gestos e expressões. Tal ferramenta pode ser utilizada no estudo da emoção evocada pela música, tanto com relação à escuta quanto à performance musical. Este trabalho apresenta o desenvolvimento teórico atual de uma pesquisa de doutorado que investiga os possíveis significados musicais gerados a partir de manipulações de elementos sonoros, em termos de significados expressados e/ou percebidos, bem como os consequentes efeitos emergentes nos ouvintes, por meio dos significados evocados. Este trabalho relaciona a abordagem da psicologia analítica, sobre os símbolos e o inconsciente, com a abordagem da etologia, sobre a comunicação animal, em relação aos processos cognitivos e neurais, e os efeitos comportamentais provocados pela música no organismo do ouvinte.
