Abstract

The Brazilian Sign Language Interpreters and Translators Center (Tils) was created on February 24, 2015, being a project by the Graduation Pro-Rectory. Among its goals, we highlight the attention to deaf students enrolled in the University's graduation and post-graduation courses. From narratives by deaf students enrolled in Unicamp's post-graduation programs, they revealed that, for a higher number of deaf people to be included in higher education, first of all it is necessary to serve the deaf students included in elementary and high school with quality. The public school has the greatest amount of deaf children enrolled in elementary and high school, constituted as a place of inclusive practices. In case of deaf student, for the inclusion to be effective, it is necessary the presence of a sign language interpreter. This professional will enable the student-professor communication, as well as with the hearing classmates, and as a consequence, favor the good relationship in the classroom. The Tils Center, in partnership with East-West Education Stations, proposes the creation of an extension course for Brazilian sign language interpreters, emphasizing in the education that aims to contribute to the educational interpreter's formation, resulting in the education quality improvement, offered to deaf people in public education, expanding the university-public school partnership. The course's teaching staff is made up by Tils Center professionals and two deaf professors who act at CEPRE/FCM.
