Abstract

The oncological treament is full of anxiety, fears and insecurities, frequently the side effects generate changes in the patient&";s appearance, which damage their self-esteem. Aiming to provide patients with a humanized treatment and full care, the Clinical Oncology&";s Ambulatory Social Service, in partnership with Superintendency, the Humanization Group and the Volunteer Hub from this hospital, formalized a partnership with Instituto ABIHPEC in 2015, implementing the Project "Look Good Feel Better - Beauty Against Cancer". The institute, composed by the Brazilian Association of Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics, takes self-make up workshops to hospitals and oncological treatment centers. The project is performed by volunteering professionals from the beauty field, who teach to patients techniques to help softening the effects related to the cancer treatment, providing the self-esteem and life quality elevation. The project was created in the United States in 1989, covering 26 countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. It served more than 750,000 women, engaging more than 14,500 volunteers. The work is totally volunteer and oriented to the wellness in women going through oncologic treatment. In Brazil, the project occurs in various hospitals, for example, the Barretos Cancer Hospital. At HC Unicamp, the project is monthly. 17 workshops were already performed, serving approximately 204 patients. 4 workshops will still be performed in 2016, with forecast to renew partnership for 2017.
