Abstract

Around the world, people need blood transfusion for various reasons. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that on developed countries, one in ten people admitted to a hospital needs a blood transfusion an in developing countries, this rate is much higher. In Brazil, only 1.8% of the population is a blood donor, a number very far from the percentage deemed as optimum by WHO, which is 3% to 5%; this figure is worrying. This work proposes the continuous improvement of the public service management, related to blood and bone marrow donation. Through the research on the inventory management analysis, for products originating from blood processing and also through strategy analysis to maintain new donors and the maintenance of donors who are already loyal, with the purpose to create and implement a system operating to enable the blood components' inventory dimensioning, in order to balance demand and also optimize communication between patients, REDOMES and Hemocenters.
