Abstract

The technical progress has enabled the newborn babies, with severe and/or incurable diseases to survive and who need palliative care, providing physical, emotional and spiritual comfort throughout their life and support to their relatives. In this context, the bond, communication and care with the family are extremely important. The group of parents arise as a proposal of intervention and welcome to parents, enabling the process of communication and bond construction between them and the team. GOAL: Describe the Group of Parents&"; experience, developed at CAISM/UNICAMP Neonatology unit. METHOD: The Group of Parents occurs every week at the neonatology unit, with the participation of a psychologist and a physician as enablers and group conductors. RESULTS: From the experience at the unit, it is perceived that the baby&";s admission period is a time of crisis for parents. Given this, the group provides the word possibility and circulation, sharing lives, doubts, and fears and mobilized feelings in this risky period, in addition to enable a greater guidance and knowledge by the team on the difficulties faced by the parents in this period. CONCLUSION/DISCUSSION: The group performance is essential for parents to have a space where they can develop feelings and emotions resulting from their baby&";s admission, in addition to the bond potential and enabling the communication between parents and palliative care team.
