Abstract

The article proposes a synthesis between the objective approach to the concept of landscape, characteristic of physical geography, and the subjective approach, shared by common sense and historical, economic and social approaches. The synthesis is achieved through Simondon's philosophy of technics, in dialogue with Ingold's anthropology and Berque's geography, emphasizing the relational character of subjectivity, in order to underscore the chronologically multiple scalability of space when apprehended as landscape: geological, biological, historical, affective-emotive times. By emphasizing the gestures of apprehension and inscription of space, we seek a genetic approach that may shed light on the reciprocal constitution and the mediation between these two poles. By means of the Yanomami myth of Iwari, in which humans acquire fire, we show how the technical gesture of inscribing meaning, in all these scales, is the genesis of the translation of space as landscape.
