Abstract
In this article I analyze the narratives of subjects in conflict with a timber industry, in order to comprehend the knowledge that these subjects produce about the armed man of the company, named guards (guardas), jagunços and gunmen (pistoleiros). I observe how these men are comprehended by the narrators, considering the relations of proximity that give form to the narratives, and the violence of which guards, jagunços and gunmen are representatives. Through their judgments of the armed men’s work (trabalho) and of their relations with relatives and neighbors, the narrators also reveal what cannot be said about the acts of aggression and the tragic events that characterize the conflict.References
