Abstract
This article is part of a research about two phenomena that have marked the rural world and the southern border of Mato Grosso. Colonels, latifundia owners and cattle farmers or managers of resources in the region, representing the strength of the local and rural power. The other side of the same coin was banditry that, since the end of the Paraguayan War and for a long time, infested savannah and wetland Mato Grosso do Sul. Bandits and impunity were the outstanding features of this territory, recorded by regional storytellers and the oral tradition that forged myths and folk heroes.References
