Notes on ethnographic differences and differentiations of the movement

Abstract

Based on the ethnographic works presented in this issue, we problematize the idea of movement. It intends to map the distinct manners to conceive it. From the contrasts and convergences observed on native formulation of movement, given varied contexts, it is possible to draw not only the distinctions among particular ethnographic experiences of mobility, but also bring different possibilities to approach them. Thus, intensive and extensive dimensions, diversity of directions, durations, paths, rhythms, paces, practices, agencies, and their relationship with deceleration, pauses and resting, help us to enhance and highlight specific forms under which the movement comes to the analysis, arising as an organizing principle of social dynamics. This approach, consisting here by the analysis of those selected papers, points towards possibilities of social classifications and collective units that cannot be apprehend when taking for granted the studied realities as motionless.
