Abstract
Social capital can create opportunities of development through social networks of negotiation. Due to the importance of the topic, this paper analyses the strength of existing social capital in the rural areas studied. The region was chosen by reason of its fast rural economic growth during the last ten years. Questionnaires’ results emphasized people’s interests with respect to a more united society where individual and collective well-being were priorities. Additionally, a social capital index was calculated, which associated with qualitative analyses, allowed to verify the existence of social capital. That is important because social capital associated with different kinds of capital could be contributing to the development of the region analyzed.References
