Abstract

Migraine is a public health issue with overall prevalence between 10 and 20%. It affects four times as many women than men, generating a significant physical discomfort, intense pain and concentration difficulty, frequently leading to absence from work. The headache comes in crisis with duration between 4 and 72 hours, with uni or bilateral location, pulsatile, mild to severe intensity, and is accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, photophobia and phonophobia. It may be preceded by mood change and appetite loss. This work purpose was to show the importance and efficiency of the acupuncture use when treating patients served at CECOM with diagnosed migraine. Initially, the patietns go by an acupuncture consultation, in which the following is checked: overall data, HMA, main complaint, organ and viscera issues, heartbeat, family diseases, medication intake, and surgeries underwent. After the consultation, the patient begins the treatment, with a first sequence from 8 to 10 sessions, and with the history register of one's evolution. In general, from the second session, an improvement on the clinical picture is observed. It is recommended that the patient be re-assessed after the first sequence of method application, in order to check efficiency. If necessary, in case it is a disease with difficult treatment, the patient may undergo one more sequence from 8 to 10 sessions. We conclude that this method has been efficient when treating this disease, once the patients with migraine submitted to acupunture present improvement from the second session.
