Abstract

The literature and the practice with pregnant women point out that pregnancy is a transition period. The transformations are countless, including changes on psyche and the pregnant woman's social-family role. The literature evidences that the puerperal pregnancy period is the stage with most psychic disorder incidence in women, with increase of symptomatology or even the development of psychiatric disorders. The psychologic change intensity is related to family, marital, social, cultural factors, as well as the pregnant woman's personality trait. Thus, she needs special attention to keep or recover wellness, in order to prevent future difficulties to the binomial. Aiming such need, the Full Attention Center to Women's Health (CAISM) has a prenatal ambulatory specialized in Mental Health on pregnancy, with multi-professional services, psychiatric and psychotherapeutic follow-up. The psychologic services take place at the ambulatory, through free demand or team referral; they are individual services, based on brief and focal psychotherapy. In our practice, we observe that the psychological service to this audience at the hospital space reflects on a better bond of the pregnant woman with the newborn, strengthening family bonds. Besides of that, it enables a fully look to the pregnant woman, with proposals of a proper care during prenatal, delivery and puerperium, providing a more healthy pregnancy experience and the prevention of future, severe psychiatric disorders.
